I felt bad about writing so little about each picture from our trip to the zoo. To ease my guilty conscience, I went back and added comments to the pictures; however, to read these additional witty comments (and rather bland comments as well), you need to click on each picture individually. Yes, I know this is a rotten thing to do on a blog (sorry), but because of a bug in the way that the photo program and the blog template work together, I can’t go back to the pictures on the blog and add the comments.

I actually had way too much fun writing little comments for each photo (we'll call this my "I don't want to get back to studying" phase). Enjoy!

Well, this week I finished another set of finals--I am no longer a first year student, but now I am officially a "2L." Well, to celebrate Laura and I spent about two hours at Cameron Park Zoo in Waco, Texas. The zoo is very nice--we were impressed--but we were also ready to leave after two hours. Good thing to, because I really didn't have that much time off (lots of homework to do before classes start back up bright and early Monday morning). Well, Laura and I enjoyed our time at the zoo--you can enjoy some of the photos I took at the zoo.

Up to this point I have kept my postings on this blog to be exclusively photo-related, but I thought this email I received was worth sharing.

Dear Steven,

President George W. Bush issued the following statement on the passing of Chief Justice William Rehnquist.

PRESIDENT BUSH: Our nation is saddened today by the news that Chief Justice William Rehnquist passed away last night.

Laura and I send our respect and deepest sympathy to this good man's children, Jim, Janet and Nancy. We send our respect to all the members of the Rehnquist family.

William H. Rehnquist was born and raised in Wisconsin. He was the grandson of Swedish immigrants. Like so many of his generation, he served in the Army during World War II. He went on to college with the help of the G.I. Bill.

He studied law at Stanford University. He graduated first in his class. That included his future colleague Sandra Day O'Connor.

Judge Rehnquist and his late wife, Nan, raised their family in Phoenix, where he built a career as one of Arizona's leading attorneys.

He went on to even greater distinction in public service: as an assistant U.S. attorney general, associate justice of the Supreme Court and, for the past 19 years, chief justice of the United States.

He was extremely well-respected for his powerful intellect. He was respected for his deep commitment to the rule of law and his profound devotion to duty.

He provided superb leadership for the federal court system, improving the delivery of justice for the American people and earning the admiration of his colleagues throughout the judiciary.

Even during a period of illness, Chief Justice Rehnquist stayed on the job to complete the work of his final Supreme Court term.

I was honored and I was deeply touched when he came to the Capitol for the swearing-in last January.

He was a man of character and dedication. His departure represents a great loss for the court and for our country.

There are now two vacancies on the Supreme Court. And it will serve the best interests of the nation to fill those vacancies promptly. I will choose in a timely manner a highly qualified nominee to succeed Chief Justice Rehnquist.

As we look to the future of the Supreme Court, citizens of this nation can also look with pride and appreciation on the career of our late chief justice. More than half a century has passed since William H. Rehnquist first came to the Supreme Court as a young law clerk.

All of those years, William Rehnquist revered the Constitution and the laws of the United States. He led the judicial branch of government with tremendous wisdom and skill.

He honored America with a lifetime of service, and America will honor his memory.

May God bless the Rehnquist family.

Even through the monumental building projects which Baylor has recently completed, this building, Neff Hall, remains the university's signature building. What is most impressive about this building is the dome--it is 23 1/2 carat gold.

Here is another photograph that I shot last night. This is a Baylor's newest parking garage (our tuition dollars hard at work). In Photoshop, I adjusted the lighting a bit (I took the photo virtually in the dark. I was quite surprised that enough detail was saved for me to lighten the photo this much). Though it is not evident in the photo, there is a Chili's Too and a Starbucks on the right of the building.

What would be better to shoot with my last 72 hours of freedom than the institution that is preparing to commence the sucking of every ounce of life and enjoyment from my being? After spending a while shooting the front side of the law school, I decided to hike around to the back by the bank of the Brazos River. I shot this picture on the slopes on the riverbank. I used a tripod and a three second exposure. Because it was dark, I couldn't see the balance on th tripod, so I had to eyeball it.

This picture was taken last week when I flew from Ontario International Airport in Southern California to Dallas-Fortworth Airport. I took this picture about five minutes after we took off from ONT. I'm not completely sure what that body of water is. I'm guessing it is Lake Elsinore, or as some of the locals call it Lake Smell-some-more (but I, of course, would never mock such a beautiful lake).

Here is the complex where I live in Texas, but no, the actual apartment is not shown (I figure I had better keep just a little privacy--the original photo I was going to post had my full address displayed). Speaking as one who moved to Central Texas from Los Angeles County, notice how clear and blue the sky is--there is absolutely no smog. Amazing.

Shelly, my sister, requested that I post a picture of Naomi wearing her diaper. The dog wears a diaper in the house because she seems to “leak.” She is housetrained and she doesn’t seem to intentionally “go” in the house, but she does seem to leak a bit when she gets excited.

My father and I went hiking in Orange County, California. If you look really, REALLY carefully, you can see the Pacific Ocean in the background. With the haze, it is extremely difficult to identify.

One of the most amazing eating experiences in the High Desert is John's Amazing Pizza Company (quite honestly, there are few places in the High Desert that can possibly compare to the sheer creativity of this place).

I ate lunch here last week, when I got to enjoy a couple of slices of peanut butter pizza, cheeseburger pizza, alfredo pizza, and several of their other specialties.

For my the past four days (Saturday through Tuesday), I have been in Sedona, Arizona, with my family.

For those who aren't familiar with Arizona geography, Sedona is in the mountains of Northern Arizona. The weather up there was tremendous (that is, when it wasn't raining). I don't think it got out of the early 80s the entire time we were up there.

While we were driving around Sedona, I took quite a few shots from the car--and most of them came out surprisingly well, especially considering that this is taken through the car window.

This photo continues my series of, "Where I went to church this past Sunday." While on vacation with my family, in Sedona, Arizona, we attended Crestview Community Church.

I'll say two things for this church: First, the pastor tried to be biblical in his preaching (up to this point, I have not included any theological rambling in this blog, but I'll just note that the pastor's sermon was titled, "God's Wrath Again, Sort of," based upon 1 John 5:16-17...go ahead and look up the text).

My second observation about this church is purely cosmetic: I have never had a better view while sitting in the sanctuary. Behind the platform, is a glass wall displaying a glorious view of the Sedona Mountains. A view like that certainly does add to the worship experience.
